HUNNIC TRIBES, Western Turks. Zabulistan. Spur Phromo Kesaro, circa 688-700s. Hemidrachm (?) (Silver, 30 mm, 1.71 g, 3 h), Zabul, RY 4. Draped bust resembling the Sasanian king Khosrau II to right, wearing an elaborate mural crown; behind head, ‘GDE / ʾp̄zwt’ (‘[may his] glory increase’ in Pahlavi); before head, ‘spwl’ (‘Spur’ in Pahlavi); in the margin, traces of ‘ϕρομο κηςαρο ξηoρo βαγο χοαδηο’ (‘Phromo Kesaro, the mighty king [and] lord’ in Bactrian). Rev. Fire altar with ribbons, flanked by two attendants; to left, ‘ALBA’ = ‘čahār’ (‘four’ in Pahlavi); ‘zʾwl’ = ‘Zāwul’ (‘Zabul’ in Pahlavi). Vondrovec 247. Very rare. Holed and struck from worn dies, otherwise, very fine.
